| “...Rozalina Gutman’s method revolves around encouraging students to invent narratives, relating to content and structure of the classical music pieces they are learning. Motivation for the child to enjoy the experience of learning... comes through personal investment in the meaning of the music being studied...”

What if Mozart transcended the time and came to life today, took a subway train and came to our piano lesson... |
|
| Ovation followed the world premier of my Cadenza, performed as a part of the 3rd Movement of the renowned Mozart’s Piano Concerto #21 in C Major by my little 8 year old student. It was almost magical... Her face was glowing with happiness, despite being slightly nervous. Indeed, it was also a special premier performance for her own musical fairytale that she wove into the fabric of Mozart’s masterpiece.. According to it, a whimsical elephant loved to make music, the family of rabbits enjoyed dancing, and other unique characters with their magical powers corresponded to the specific musical details of Mozart’s score, as they emerged into this musical performance from the child’s imagination
|
Witnessing how my brand new Cadenza allowed for this child’s authentic performance to take place was a real delight for me too. And I felt as if the choir of angels sang the elaborate praises to us, while joining the enthusiastic ovation by the audience who rose off their seats to greet us & to celebrate this special student’s achievement. This moving reception made me wonder: “What if the passion, the elegance & the fun of this music performance might have inspired the angels’ choir to pass their sweet cheers ...from Mozart himself?!”
I was ready to bow, as the gratitude overflowed my thoughts: “Wow, thanks for so much praise for our humble student-teacher teamwork! But, the truth is, I could be the happiest person on the planet, if I could only get ...just a quick wink, as a sign of the approval for my Cadenza-scaffolding from the world’s most popular composer & the master-magician of Magic Flute.” But, Mozart was so much more generous. He rewarded us, along with everyone in the audience, with quite a remarkable opportunity to witness the true spectacle of his timeless spirit coming alive through his music, to appear for this special musical playdate & to have a match-up with his cute little counterpart, wearing her charming dress & playing the game of “Musical Predictions”.

And, this boundless Child vs Mozart interplay turned into the revelation of the centuries-old intimate composer’s Flow moments, secretly left by him in his score to be discovered by fun-loving children.
Such successful student performances make visible the stepping stones in the child’s inner growth that involve comprehension, mastering & learning to share their musical performances of great sensory & intellectual complexity & sophistication. And most importantly, this memorable moment of celebrating creativity made most evident the success of the student-teacher long term collaborative process, that led to this truly ...magical student’s achievement in her inner growth that boldly defies the common expectations of Higher Human Potential.
Indeed, what can compete with music’s power to foster the capacity to grasp & to handle the intangible, & yet, the most invaluable matters in our reality during developmentally critical childhood years? What other fun and engaging type of curricula for children can match music’s ability to foster such under-represented in education, & yet most critical for everyone advanced cognitive abilities, such as conceptual thinking through metaphors & abstract cognition skills, while providing the balanced learning process through reactivating the sensory perception that fosters child’s emotional intelligence? What other means of cognitive development may compete in the effectiveness of forming the most critical for any level of EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP capacity to practice SYMPHONIC PERCEPTION of the reality, that allows one to make the right choices, balancing multiple priorities, aligning them both with the self-preservation instinct & with the moral ethics of our collective survival? What other curricula devices can combine better all these complex pedagogical goals, in the format that is centered on music that possesses the proven magical ability to elicit the feel-good neurotransmitters, through the resonance to our emotional senses of comfort & fun?
As I look at the first colorfully illustrated & printed copies of Cadenza, I recall that at first I was inspired to solve this small hands accommodation-puzzle for my little student, who no longer had to wait to grow up for having the most enlightening hands-on, experiential engagement with the piano/orchestra compositional mindset of Mozart. And now, it is finally ready to be delivered into the eager-to-play little hands of many more aspiring little pianists. I imagine how the faces of young piano students, their piano instructors, conductors, parents, & music fans would light up with the similar delight, ignited by the ever giving gift of Mozart’s piece of music, now making children wiser & more attuned to the Universal resonance.
What magic enables the spark of the inspiration to travel through several centuries & land into our lives today, helping us comprehend our reflection of the complex contemporary world, through the intricate sensory resonance to Mozart’s musical metaphors that can help facilitate our transformative narratives! Now, this youthful & playful musical maverick of Mozart is awaiting to shine in the hands of the young child-performers. Thanks to this Cadenza, it gained its brand new functionality of “the great piece of the pedagogical repertoire” with the supercharged potency to educate, to entertain & to carry into the future the best of Mozart’s tradition, widely admired for its “magic” to be able to transform the minds of those, who interact with the timeless Genius.
So, now you, my dear readers, also can go right ahead & try to make the audience guess, whether the young student’s playing of Mozart’s Concerto may be a fairytale-vision of their imagination, or the reality and the result of fun, child-centered and Flow-based approach to mastering the complexities. Now, it’s your turn to add your own magic touch, with your little & very capable hands, & to express your ingenuity, so this musical maverick of Mozart may come alive & shine his fun-loving essence again & again!

Curious fact: The son of Johan Sebastian Bach, Johann Christian Bach met in London in 1764 with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who was aged eight at the time and had been brought by his father. Johann Christian Bach then spent five months teaching Mozart in composition.
|
|
Due to a surprising blind spot, J.S.Bach is yet to be widely credited for establishing the key compositional principle of SYMPHONIC DEVELOPMENT of transforming musical ideas within a piece, that has become the cornerstone in music of Classical period composers, often represented by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, and was used in Sonata form for many symphonies and sonatas for solo instruments during that time and there after. The concept of SYMPHONISM is very significant in many ways, allowing for the metaphorical representation of inner change and broader social reforms, including transformative and therapeutic applications of such pieces.
